Community M-Room: Forced Sterilization on Women of Color | Multicultural Affairs

Most recently, we’ve heard about the mass hysterectomies that have occurred at the immigration detention centers where there has been a public outcry at how dehumanizing this is. However, this is not a one-off instance. The United States has a history of forced sterilization of women of color. These abuses have occurred to Black, Native, Mexican immigrants, and Puerto Rican women and inform the modern reproductive justice movement today. This real talk should serve to be an introduction to this topic. Real Talk ~ Hosted by Mericel Mirabal OMA Ambassador

Community M-Room: Perpetual Foreigner Syndrome | Multicultural Affairs

How many times have you heard the question, "Where are you really from?" from a fellow American? This is a common question received by ethnic minority individuals living in the United States who identify as an American but also identify with their ancestral roots from another country. This real talk will discuss how having one's American identity constantly questioned due to their non-Anglo-Saxon features can cause ethnic individuals to feel like a perpetual foreigner in their own country. Real Talk ~ Hosted By Jessica Mun, OMA Ambassador
