The Office of Multicultural Affairs is excited to present our inaugural Multicultural Leadership Awards Banquet. This event strives to recognize multicultural students, faculty/staff, and alumni who have exhibited qualities of leadership that projects the mission of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity at Lehigh University.

Descriptions of Nominations

The Rising Star Award
Description: This award will be presented to a multicultural student (freshman/sophomore/transfer) who has demonstrated a passion for increasing diversity and inclusion through co-curricular involvement and leadership.  This student exemplifies the potential to be a role model, effective communicator and student advocate for the rest of their tenure at
Lehigh University.             

Outstanding Diversity Program
Description: This award will be presented to a multicultural student organization or student whose program strives to highlight the unique and diverse characteristics of Lehigh University student body.  This program should educate the campus community through the provision of cross-cultural activities aimed to enhance community awareness and intercultural dialogue around diversity and inclusion.

The Advocate Award
Description: This award will be presented to a multicultural student who has fought for the needs of equity among their fellow peers.  They have been steadfast in their pursuits of increasing the awareness of diversity and inclusion through programming, committee involvement, and/or campus-wide initiatives.  This individual should be outstanding in their ability to rally the student body to affect positive change.

Excellence in Academics
Description: Through hard work and dedication, this multicultural student has achieved balance between curricular and co-curricular involvement.  This individual has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher while contributing significantly to the student experience outside the classroom.  This person serves as a role model for students seeking a balance between academic and co-curricular pursuits.

Outstanding Student Organization
Description: This multicultural student organization has demonstrated tremendous growth in not only membership but their programming efforts.  They strive to educate the student body through intercultural dialogue on current events that impact marginalized communities.

Social Justice through Service Award
Description: This multicultural student organization and/or student has made a significant impact on one or more non-profit community partners serving the diverse community which makes up Lehigh Valley Community and the surrounding area.  This student org/student has demonstrated the ability to understand and sustain continuous relationships with community partners.

Collaboration Award
Description: This collaborative recognition is presented to a student organization that has made significant efforts successfully collaborate with 2 or more student organizations and/or departments in an effort to increase intercultural dialogue for the betterment of the Lehigh University campus community.

Change Agent Award
Description: This award will be presented to either a faculty or staff member that has promoted effective change enhancing the curricular and/or co-curricular experiences of all members of the Lehigh University community.  Through their ability to model the way for social advocacy, they have made significant contributions to the development of the student body.

Multicultural Alumni Award
Description: This award will be presented to a multicultural alumni of Lehigh University, having made a significant impact on the community after graduation. Nominees must have achieved distinction in their respective field, continuing to advance our university community through engagement and by giving back.

The Impact Award (Junior/Senior)
Description: This award is presented to a multicultural junior or senior who has demonstrated cultural competence and a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion across their undergraduate career. Nominees should serve as a role model, advocate for underrepresented students, and collaborator, working with partners across our campus and community.

International Student Award
Description: International Student Award is presented to a student who has exhibited exemplary contributions to furthering international understanding, and/or to the promotion of global citizenship, and the development of international awareness in our community, and/or who has demonstrated a clear commitment to sustained interaction with students of the other nationalities, languages or ethnic backgrounds in a spirit of international understanding and cooperation.
Holds at least a 3.0 G.P.A.
Exhibits outstanding service/contributions to the University or broader community
A non-immigrant F-1/J-1 student visa holder in good standing with the University

The Ally Award
Description: This award is presented to a non-multicultural student who has demonstrated an understanding of the challenges faced by their multicultural peers.  They have continuously offered support through program attendance, conscious efforts to gain a better understanding of their experiences, and contributions to enact change and promote inclusion.  

Ralph Albert Thomas ‘76 Leadership Prize
Description: Ralph Albert Thomas '76 Leadership Award is given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated tremendous achievement in their academic, personal, and co-curricular involvement. Moreover, the recipient will have had a significant impact on the quality of life of other Lehigh students.

Linda Washington Jafari ‘77 Legacy Leadership Prize
Description: The Linda Washington Jafari '77 Legacy Leadership prize will be awarded to a rising junior or senior who demonstrates the following characteristics: Tremendous achievement in their academic, personal, and co-curricular involvement; ignites significant impact on the quality of life of other Lehigh students; embodies the spirit of perseverance and  unselfish giving of their time, energy; and resources in support of building a strong multicultural community at Lehigh.
